2007年春季学期,在美国着名剧作家Frank Gagliano的指导下,北大学生创作出了众多的优秀剧目。2008年5月,EDS携手北京大学外国戏剧与电影研究所,将其中的4部搬上舞台:On the Lantern Festival《元宵节》,A Summer's Tale in Winter《冬季的夏之传说》, The Arson《焚城》以及Eurydice's Escape《逃离我的爱人》。

Frank Gagliano
Frank Gagliano was born in Brooklyn, NY and was educated at The University of Iowa (BA), and at Columbia University in New York (MFA). Frank Gagliano was part of the 1960’s group of Off-Broadway playwrights who revitalized American drama. Gagliano's Off Broadway plays include: Conerico Was Here To Stay (at NY’s Cherry Lane Theatre); Night Of The Dunce (first developed as The Library Raid, at Houston's Alley Theatre, directed by Nina Vance), produced in New York at The Cherry Lane Theatre); Father Uxbridge Wants To Marry (first developed at the O'Neill Theatre Center, produced at New York's American Place Theatre, starring Olympia Dukakis, and later televised on New York's WNET-TV, starring Roy Scheider); and The City Scene (Conerico and Paradise Gardens East). Other plays have been produced in regional theatres and universities throughout the country. He is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Mr. Gagliano was invited to teach a semester of playwriting at Peking University in the spring of 2007. At that time, he also had his play, Big Sur, produced at the Beijing Institute of World Theatre and Film, directed by Joseph Graves.

Joseph Graves is the Artistic Director of PKU Institute of World Theatre and Film which produces theatrical productions, promotes and sponsors artistic/cultural exchange between the professional theatre communities of China and those of other countries, as well as facilitates university theatre education across Mainland China. Over the last thirty years, Joseph has directed over fifty stage productions, including classical, contemporary, musical theatre and opera, in America, Great Britain and China, such productions include Romeo and Juliet, Richard III, A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Alchemist, The Sea Gull, Three Sisters, Wild Duck and Fiddler on the Roof, at such notable venues as The Welsh National Theatre, The Royal Court Theatre, The Haymarket Theatre (West End), in Great Britain and numerous theatres throughout America as well as several in China. He has appeared as an actor in over one hundred stage roles, and dozens of television productions, performing such famous characters as Hamlet, Henry V, King Lear, Richard III, Tartuffe and Uncle Vanya to name but a few. Graves has also written extensively for film and stage, including such films as Sweetwater for Viacom, and Hannah and Jack for Academy Award winner, Sir John Mills, along with many others. His plays, such as Revoco, Bunyan, and Word Circus, have received productions at such venues as The Wilshire Theatre in Los Angeles, Perth Repertory Theatre in Great Britain and The Moscow Arts Theatre in Russia. Joseph received his formal theatrical training at The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).
