早年经历

CHARA出生成长于日本的埼玉县川口市。她的艺名Chara来自国小时代的老师给她的外号，日语chara-chara是轻率而不经思考的意思。在她的早期生活中，当地的金属工业工厂和80年代的工业艺术家们都为她未来的生涯留下了印记。

她对音乐的兴趣来自小时候的钢琴课。Chara的母亲在她很小的时候就强迫她去上这些课程。

但是不久，Chara对课堂里的那些发生厌倦，转而写自己的音乐，主旨大都是对爱的渴望以及美好生活的嚮往。当时主要影响她的是美国音乐人Prince以及电影明星碧姬芭杜（Brigitte Bardot）。

在朋友诸如Yusuke Asada的帮助之下，Chara持续着她对音乐的热情，她在东京一边打工一边创作音乐，一直到1990年正式进入音乐界。

演艺经历

当Chara才两岁还在学说话时，已经是位对音乐十分敏感的女孩。于是她的父母买了一个玩具钢琴给她。四岁时她就开始学真正的钢琴。国小一年级时，她发表了第一首创作的歌曲《SAYONARA》。

16岁时，Chara开始参与乐团活动并担任的Keyboard手；20岁时，她决意要自己演唱自己写的歌词，进而转担任主唱。两年后，Chara被唱片公司发掘，成为日本Sony旗下的艺人，并在1991年以一首单曲《Heaven》正式沖入乐坛，同年11月推出首张专辑《SWEET》。

1992年Chara的第2张专辑《Soul Kiss》推出便打入Oricon榜第14位，并勇夺该年日本唱片大赏的专辑新人赏!之后受邀参加多方广告的演出，并主唱其广告曲。在实力被肯定的情况下，1993年她的第3张专辑《Violet Blue》与1994年的第4张专辑《Happy Toy》，都分别荣登Oricon榜第4位。证明了Chara的歌曲有她独特的个人魅力。

1995年3月Chara突然与浅野忠信闪电结婚，就在结婚当天，俩人手牵手在东京涉谷街上，一边交换戒指、一边哼起了结婚进行曲。浪漫地完成她的终身大事。

1996年Chara凭电影《燕尾蝶》夺得日本电影大赏的最佳女主角奖。而该剧主题曲《爱之歌》，更创下了百万销售佳绩，为Chara开启了另一个新时代。该影片导演岩井俊二曾在公开场合中表示他最欣赏的女歌手是Chara，更表示他是Chara忠实歌迷，拥有她所有的专辑。

到了1997年经过广告、电影等各方面的洗礼，恰拉已经不再只是唱歌的恰拉。而是位全方位的巨星，'97年4月推出抒情佳作《温柔的心情》，便打入单曲排行TOP7，此单曲更荣获MTV JAPAN 观众票选最佳音乐录像带奖。接下来的《Time Machine》，也在日本销售极佳。这2首单曲都被资生堂选为广告曲，充分表现出恰拉甜美略带慵懒的浓郁个人气息。但自1994/10推出了第四张专辑《Happy Toy》之后，就一直迟迟不见蹤影，直到1997/09，在整整让歌迷等了三年之后，专辑《Junior Sweet(甜甜蜜蜜)》终于推出。此时的恰拉以一位全方位巨星，加上独特嗓音、实力兼备的特质，立刻勇夺ORICON专辑榜冠军，销售突破百万！

一直专心做最好音乐的恰拉，98年推出了DUCA（7月）、光与我（10月），还有1999年2月推出的『70%─黄昏之歌』。对于专辑的酝酿更是不假他人，不停琢磨精益求精，1999年3月推出全新力作〝STRANGE FRUITS奇异果〞，这又令歌迷等了1年6个月之久。

2000年，Chara在乐迷期盼之下，推出了双CD《Chara Live 97-99 Mood》，一共收录了97年《JUNIOR SWEET TOUR》，98年《"DUCA" & THE AURORA BAND》， 99年《STRANGE FRUITS THE LIVE》，以及99年10月27日在NHK HALL举办的《STRANGE FRUITS THE CONCERT》长达三年的四次巡迴、共61场次的所有演唱过的曲目中，由Chara亲自挑选的19首最精彩的现场演唱曲。

感情生活

1995年，chara和浅野忠信结婚，婚后两人一直是众人羡慕的模範夫妻，没有任何绯闻。浅野忠信是日本着名演员，主演过《座头市》等大量影视作品。2009年7月25日，他们却突然在各自官方网站公布离婚讯息，让人大吃一惊，chara新曲歌词还暗示丈夫有出轨行为。
