马剑鹏博士的研究领域为生物物理,计算生物学及结构生物学。主要致力于发展针对生物体系研究的新的计算方法,用以克服实验研究中的困难,与实验手段相结合解决複杂生物体蒸故料应系中的重要问题。他的研究在中低精度蛋白质结构与功能以及蛋白质摺叠研究领域内处于前沿和主导地位。汗捉估燥他发展的包含大尺度运动的多尺度多精度结构精化的方法大大推进了X光晶体衍射,低温电子显微镜和纤维衍射领域中柔性结构分子的精化。他最新发展的计算方法成功地套用于中等大小蛋白的摺叠问题。马剑鹏博士课题组近年来在Nature, Science, Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci., Biophys. J.,J. Am. Chem. Soc.等国际着名杂誌上市备发表论文53篇,并多次在国际学术会议上做邀请报告。因其在计算生物学和结构生物学领域的重要贡献,2004年获得 Norman Hackerman 化学研究奖。
