本教材介绍了死亡与尸体现象、机械性窒息、机械性损伤、高低温及电流损伤、猝死、中毒以及司法精神医学、法医人类学、法医物证检验、法医学尸体检验、法医学活体检验等主要内容；阐述了目前法医鉴定中经常遇到的一些新问题，如医疗过错的司法鉴定、法医亲子鉴定、堕胎与虐婴以及雷射损伤、高空病、减压病、氧中毒等新的法医学知识，使得本教材具有鲜明的时代特色和较强的实际套用价值。
本教材可供全国医学、公安、法律院校相关专业使用。

随着社会的不断发展和新生事物的不断涌现，对法医学教学提出了更高要求，需要不断扩充新的知识。为配合全国医学、公安、法律院校的教学工作，向相关专业学生传授最新、最实用的法医学知识，我们编写了这本教材。

本教材具有以下特点：

第一，内容全面，涉及面广。本教材不仅涵盖了机械性损伤、机械性窒息、死亡与尸体现象、中毒、法医学物证、法医学尸体和活体检验等传统法医学知识，而且还增加了雷射损伤、高空病、减压病、氧中毒等新的法医学知识。另外，针对目前我国精神损害案例日益增多等社会现状，还将司法精神疾病纳入了本教材的内容。

第二，内容新颖，紧扣时代脉搏。本教材针对目前社会上的一些热点问题，增设了相关的章节，力图跟上时代发展的步伐。如针对我国目前未婚先孕者日益增多，由此引发的非法堕胎致人死亡案件以及虐待、遗弃婴儿案件频频发生的社会现状，增设了堕胎与虐婴一章；针对目前利用放射线伤害和杀人案件的出现，增设了辐射损伤的内容等。并增加了最高人民法院、最高人民检察院、公安部、国家安全部、法务部联合发布的,于2014年1月1日起正式执行的《人体损伤程度鉴定标準》,使得本教材更加紧扣时代的脉搏。

第三，理论联繫实际，为社会实践提供帮助。本教材不仅讲述法医学传统理论知识，而且根据社会发展的需要，详细阐述了目前法医鉴定中经常遇到的一些实际问题。如根据目前我国医疗事故屡见不鲜、申请进行医疗过错鉴定的案件与日俱增的社会现实，对医疗过错的构成、医疗过错的司法鉴定等问题都进行了较为详尽的论述。又如，当前为排除非婚生子女而申请亲子鉴定的案件有增长的趋势，本教材对DNA技术这一高科技手段也进行了论述，以满足法医亲子鉴定工作的实际需要。

由于编者日常工作繁忙，编写时间较为仓促，本教材不足之处在所难免，还望各位同行批评指正。
